Tirol ist dafür bekannt, dass die Traditionen auch heutzutage noch äußerst gut gepflegt werden. Dabei gibt es verschiedene Traditionen, die von den Tirolern gelebt und gefeiert werden. Hier die wichtigsten und bekanntesten...
Zum einen gibt es natürlich die farbenfrohen Trachten von Tirol. Der Ausdruck „Tracht“ stand einst nur für ein zweckmäßiges Gewand. Erst seit etwa 200 Jahren bezeichnet der Begriff die aufwändige, kostbare Festtagskleidung, die hauptsächlich zu festlichen Anlässen getragen wird. Trachten sind ein Schmuckstück Tiroler Identität, deren Wahrung und Förderung einen wesentlichen Beitrag zur Erhaltung echter Tiroler Tradition leistet. Jede Tiroler Talschaft hat ihre eigene, unverwechselbare Tracht. So reichhaltig wie die Tiroler Landschaften, so farbenprächtig präsentieren sich auch die regionalen Festtagstrachten, welche ihren festen Platz im Tiroler Lebens- und Jahresbrauchtum haben.
Die ländlichen Frauentrachten gehören im Allgemeinen zu den im Alpenraum üblichen Miedertrachten: Ein geschnürtes Miederleibchen mit untergestecktem Brustlatz, eine weiße Bluse und ein gefalteter Rock, meist aus einer Wolle-Leinen-Mischung, sind dafür charakteristisch. Die ländlichen Männertrachten wiederum bestehen aus einer meist kurzen Lodenjacke, "Joppe" genannt, einem Brustfleck oder einer Weste, einem weißen Leinenhemd, der zumeist knielangen Lederhose und einem breiten, federkielbestickten Gürtel.
Die verschiedenen Tiroler Landestrachtenverbände widmen sich neben der Trachtenpflege ebenso dem Tiroler Volkstanz Dies ist ein weit verbreiteter Tanz mit vielen verschiedenen Tanzformen. Meist benannt als Bayrisch-Polka, Bayerische Polka oder Boarischer.
Für Personen die den traditionellen Volkstanz erlernen wollen bietet die Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Volkstanz Tirol eine Reihe von Kursen an.
Dort bekommt man die Gelegenheit das wahre Tiroler Leben mit seinen herzlichen Menschen kennen zu lernen.
Eine weitere Tradition ist das schon seit Jahrzehnten gefeierte „auf
die Alm fahren“ Ende Mai bzw. Anfang Juni der heimischen Bauern sowie der Almabtrieb oder die „Heimfahrt der Bauern mit ihren
Kühen“ Ende September. Als Almabtrieb oder Alpabfahrt bezeichnet man im Alpenraum die Überführung des Viehs von den Bergweiden (Almen) ins Tal, wo es in den Stallungen der Bauernhöfe überwintert.
Ist der Almsommer für Mensch und Tier ohne tödliche Unfälle verlaufen, werden in vielen Gegenden die Herden für den Abtrieb kunstvoll geschmückt und der Almabtrieb mit Musik- und Tanzveranstaltungen verbunden. Diese Feste bildeten früher im September oder Oktober den Abschluss des Almlebens. Für den Kopfschmuck der Tiere wird traditionell der Almrausch (Alpenrose) oder Latschenkiefer verwendet, sowie die Silberdistel und Seidenblumen. Eine besondere Rolle spielt dabei die sogenannte Kranzkuh. Sie bekommt einen ganz besonders pompösen Kopfschmuck. Bergab auf den Weg 
in die heimischen Ställe führt die Kranzkuh traditionell die Herde an. Der Kranz wird mit viel Liebe aus Zweigen, Blumen, Gräsern und Bändern in Form einer Krone geflochten. Meist enthält er ein Kreuz, womit um den Schutz des Himmels gefleht wird und einen Spiegel und Glocken zur Abwehr böser Geister.
Der Almabtrieb ist für Tirol ein Großereignis und wird deswegen auch sehr groß gefeiert. Zu diesem Fest zieht es aber nicht nur Einheimische hin. Denn durch dieses einmalige Erlebnis im September ist der Almabtrieb auch international sehr beliebt. Wenn man die Tiroler Traditionen einmal live miterleben will, der sollte sich auch mal im Sommer nach Tirol begeben und nicht nur auf die Pisten.
